Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline that has been developed over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.

A local company - The Problem Solving Company recently came in to do maths problem solving workshops with each class. All if the children were engaged and enthused throughout and we saw a lot of amazing team work!

Austen class have been using a range of manipulatives to help support their place value knowledge this week.

Donaldson Class have been busy learners this week in maths creating repeating patterns using a range of resources.  They have tried hard to make the patterns more complex using 2, 3, 4, or even 6 different objects!

Maths with Marshmallows.  We used a variety of different resources to support our practical maths including marshmallows.  This really helped us to visualise the number sentences and support our basic number skills.  They were pretty tasty at the end too.

Peake class have been investigating a range of manipulatives since the start of term. With a focus on making numbers ranging from 0-100. We've enjoyed finishing different ways of making the same number.

Pankhurst class had a great maths lesson recently. Measuring angles, they measured angles on the table (made from masking tape) using protractors. Their favourite part was being able to write angles on the table with some very special pens! 🌟🎨
